Our clients on Marra Drive would like a serious updating of the 90s kitchen. In addition to the kitchen remodel, this Ann Arbor home will have a reconfigured first floor with gorgeous natural finish with Scandinavian feel. Please follow the Rochman Design Build team as we give the fireplace a facelift, change the staircase to something more modern and transform our clients’ home into something they love every day.

In the living room, Dave is taking the fireplace apart.
The new fireplace will be situated a bit lower.
Although a similar photo, we wanted to show the staircase that is about to be disassembled.

The kitchen is given a wider entry way to the living room.
May 1, 2023
The ceiling has been repaired, primed, and painted; the painter is cleaning up from wall repair.
The chimney chase had its old tile removed and new drywall applied. Fireplace opening was lowered and new gas fireplace installed. The paneling that used to flank the fireplace was removed and patched in and new tile will become the fireplace surround to a height of about 4’. It will then receive a modest wood mantel to break up between tile and drywall.

It’s painting week…
The walls where cabinets go are primed and given one coat of color.
The ceilings are primed and painted.

The floors used to have a darker finish, reminiscent of the 90s. They now have a lighter, natural finish.
Stepping away from the finished floors, Zach unpacks the kitchen cabinetry and starts laying out the kitchen.

Cabinetry installation is in full force.
Even though you get to see some of the colors here,
it is definitely not reflective of the wow power that will be coming soon.

The cabinets are installed and have their doors, and next is the hardware.

Once the hardware is all in, it’s time for the countertop to go in.
On the staircase, the posts are being installed, followed by the wires and railing.

In the kitchen, the backsplash is all done and we’re ready for the gorgeous red sink.
The colors are going to be dramatic!
And the installation of the railing for the staircase continues but is almost done.

In the kitchen, those empty appliance spaces have happily received their missing pieces.
In the living room, the fireplace tiles, Yohen Border Gold Mix 1/2x4 Mosaic, are being installed.
The mantle is a 2x6 oak with a thin layer of paint to allow the wood grain to be easily seen. The TV, mounted slightly above, is covered for dust protection.

The staircase is finished and gorgeous!!! The “ViewRail” railing has stainless steel “Onyx” horizontal balusters, wood treads, risers, and a clear finished red oak cap rail.
